Pittsburgh Coding Dojo
The next meeting is scheduled for October 28th. See Current events for more information.
Meetings
The Dojo meetings are organized with a Challenge in mind. You can see the links to past meetings topics on Community Portal. The Challenges are meant to be small programming problems that can be explored reasonably well in 2 hours. They are pure programming challenges that don't involve any system setup beyond a simple compiler and editor, and are language agnostic.
Format
The meetings start with a description of the problem and a review of how the meeting will be run. All previous meetings involved splitting up into pairs and exploring the problem for 2 hours; and then re-grouping at the end to review. Future meetings might include bigger sub-groups; the whole group programming in front of a projector; or a single pair discussing their solution to the group.
This re-emphasizes a goal of the Dojo. The meetings will be self-organizing with the participants describing how the meeting is conducted.
Hardware and Software
The Presenter is the individual who chooses the Challenge, researches possible solutions and describes the Challenge to the group.
The attendees should bring a laptop (at least a 2:1 ratio so pairing can be done; though if there are not enough computers we can always Projector Program); and have a compiler and editor installed. The meetings should not be consumed by setting up software.
The Pittsburgh Coding Dojo was established to give Southwestern PA programmers a forum in which to Practice their programming skills. We focus on small programming challenges (Katas) in order to become better developers ourselves and to mentor other developers.
